17. My whopper is not there: a 250-lb Pacific halibut.

DRJim, you said Whopper so I have to chime in. I don’t think anything I’ve ever caught would qualify but I have got a few Nice one’s through the years. Biggest would be a Chinook out of the Rouge River a number of years ago off the bank at 34 lbs. that was one I’ll remember. A couple nice Rainbow off the Lake at 6 & 8 lbs. and one of them must have jumped 7 or 8 times before it got to the boat. And I thought I had a Nice Eastern Brook in the mountains a few years ago, 18” and about 1 1/2 lbs, then went down the lake to where my wife was and she was reeling in one at 20” and 2 lbs. Those are pretty fish. Now I’m just happy catching a couple to eat every now an then.

A two pound brook trout on this side of the country? That qualifies as a whopper in my book. Most of the ones I've caught have been about 10 inches max. I'm still trying to find a spot that holds those bigger ones.

Newfoundland and Labrador but that's a little out of your range. 🙂

I have caught bigger ones in other places, but never in California. I keep hearing that there are a couple of lakes on the east side of the Sierras that have bigger ones, but they appear to be a closely guarded secret.
This lake at 8500 feet in the Sierras is full of the little ones, but when I took this picture I was skunked. That's never happened to me at this lake til last year.

Thanks Spirit, we were back in on a trail about 4.5 miles on horse back with little 4 1/2’ telescopic pack poles, so it was a lot of Fun. I always complain but Never MIND GETTING BETTER’ed by my Wife. She doesn’t hunt with me but Loves going fishing and I really do Love that about her.
