They don't make them any more - - -
I've always been an Evinrude man. I feel like a best friend had died.

Lost one of my favorite reels.(stupid carelessness) thought it would be easy to replace, guess not. they don't make those anymore. went to replace my work boots (Chippewa) a style I have worn for forty years, nope they discontinued that style. My Jeep Liberty has 226K miles on it, looked to buy a new one, nope they don't make them anymore.
How many of you can't get what you are used to or really like.......because they don't make that anymore?

There’s a lot of stuff you can’t get anymore . Small companies swallowed up by giant corporations that contract out to China. Now some stuff you can get on e-bay . I thought I would mention that in case you care to look..my 2cents.

Sometimes we make our own bed. Evinrude over the years went from the best motor on the market to a motor so undependable that commercial fishermen quit buying them. No sales, no income no income good buy. Merc on the other hand went from ultra high performance undependable engine to very dependable 4 stroke utility engine. If they could get their customer service under control, they would become the commercial market. Service still plays a roll in products that require service by their very nature.

I could be wrong, but I think that the government made OMC jump through so many hoops that they struggled trying to make the EPA happy. For sure, the FICHT engines were crappola. From what I hear, the E-tech engines were pretty good, but the Johhnyrudes reputation had taken too big of a hit. Also, an awful lot of people didn't want to trust the oil injection.

Besides, I like to blame the government for anything that I consider bad.

They stayed with 2 strokes Barny, even though the E-Techs supposedly were cleaner running the a 4 stroke ( according to them anyway). Some states have or are trying to ban the sale of ANY 2stroke engine, regardless of how clean it runs. They would have lost market share in all those states. The company actually blames it on the virus, which hurt everyone, not just them. According to BMP they're spending all their money and R&D on "The future of Marine Propulsion ". That looks like Electric to me, but I could be wrong. Merc will start taking orders for their small electric "Avator" motors in September. Several other companies are already in that market. Who knows what the future holds.

Yup I agree Fred. I have heard they are thinking of installing both wind and solar on everything over 12 foot. Biden will probably sign that into law, seconded by Dole and Kerry. Cost to be determined !

If I can get a water ski boat powered by wind, I am going back to sailboat racing.

Found the perfect boat shoes at LLBean. Even bought 3 pair. I’m tough on shoes. 6 years later went through all three pair and went to buy more and they no longer make them.
Loved macaroon cupcakes as a boy. Try and find them.
Never found Corned Beef Hash like my moms. Everything else I’ve tried was like dog food.

Sometimes new is better . My new Oldtown sportsman kayak spanks the butt of my prior ones. My simple Ford Escape circa 2013 has 160,000 miles on it an still going. Good luck doing that with an 80’s or 90’s vehicle

Beautiful Watercraft. Good Luck is right but hopefully if a few nerds would just read the owner's manual and follow what the engineers documented for long term reliability. Pretty simple to keep any machine functioning properly. Just never forget the TLC ( Tender Love & Care ) that you give your equipment will be returned until you decide to neglect to open up the manual and do what they recommended.

Good Luck and be safe keep on documenting fun and please share it with us.

I have plenty of classic equipment. Antique is another fitting term. New is nice but think about how old the Earth is. We need to think about keeping it safe for long term inhabitance. Do onto others and the planet as well as your machinery as you would like done on to YOU.
