Actually had such a severe case as a little tyke I had to go to hospital. They thought I had Scarlet Fever. Turned out to be a long list of allergies. My immune system is extremely individualistic, lol. Hence not being able to take the vaccination. Glad I grew out of the chocolate, eggs, oranges, wheat ones. Still have dust tho.

I remember having Scarlet Fever in early 1950's. Friend and I went to a small town with his Dad where he had a chiropractic office/practice and we went fishing in nearby river. I remember getting really sick and a high temp. Fortunately those were times where he gave me a Penicillin shot without getting sued by parents who weren't asked consent. When I got home folks took me to our doctor. Don't remember much more, but thankfully I survived!

Something else not mentioned is the therapeutic use of bee stings for arthritis patients. I’ve been stung (but not a lot lately) since suiting up fully because of mild swelling, allergic reaction to the stings.

It was a lot more fun before, when after smoking and calming the hive that I could remove my veil and gloves.
But I still get the occasional sting(s) and no arthritis - maybe coincidence.

Ya Glenn it wasn't the exact article but pretty interesting to say the least I have just a small problem with Mr Ritis. Don't think I'd go as far as s half to a dozen bee stings to aleave the pain been stung few times in my life and remembering the discomfort and pain from the sting at the same time I understand the discomforts and the pain Mr Ritis can inflict on ya
More studies needed BEE 4 I'll use the remedy 🇺🇸😎👍

Speaking of stings reminds me of about 1960 when I got out of the Navy and My friend's Mom called and to said come over to their place and pick some Cherries for my folks. So I gathered up some berry buckets (Washed out gallon paint cans with a bail handle) and headed to their place about 2 blocks away with my 12 year younger brother (who I have a strained relationship now) tagging along. We got there and the old trees were HUGE! There was one area where the cherries were really loaded, but there was one problem. There was a 24" (at least) diameter Hornets nest right in the middle of all those cherries. These Hornets were the large black and white striped kind, really mean. And unlike the good Honey Bees who can only sting once, these critters can keep stinging you. So I told my brother (stupidly) I've got this and found a big rock with the intention of knocking that hive down, Yea I know, really stupid, but I could vision filling those 1/2 dozed berry buckets in no time. So I pegged that rock and hit the nest. Those Hornets boiled out of that nest fighting mad and headed for us. We took off running with my brother in front of me. I could see the Bees swarming around his head and one nailed him on the back of the neck which caused him to leap into the air and a thong flew of one foot and when he came down he kept running and another one nailed him on the back of the neck and again he leaped into the air and off flew the other thong. We eventually outrun them. I didn't get stung. I always get a smile on my face running the picture of that event thru my mind 60 years later. My brother absolutely refused to go back over there and get his thongs. I went back after the Hornets calmed down and picked in other areas and got a bunch of Cherries for my folks. They were Royal Ann's or Bing's. Very large juicy and sweet.

No doubt I’ve got way too many hobbies! But whether it’s for fun, for pollination, for the honey, or just being a good steward, I was curious how many others here keep honeybee’s. I’ve been at it since 1997. Still learn something new each year.

I try to always maintain two hives, the top picture is a 3 pound package of bees I just started, and have the sugar syrup feed on the inside on top of the frames because it’s been so cold at night. There are bees flying in front of the entrance but they’re hard to see. I’ll keep them on sugar syrup while they raise brood and grow the colony. My Apple trees are in full bloom and the other established hive has them covered in bees.

By early summer both of my hives will look like pic.#3, I hope it’s another good harvest.

Best Regards, Glenn

I live in Caldwell, Id. by the Snake river, started one hive last year and just split to form 2 hives, it has been fun and interesting, always learning new things about raising bees, and yes the honey is great
