Where are the crappie in or around Eugene Oregon?????? Need some answers. Seems like the only fish they want out here is trout and salmon. Help!
Welcome to the forum, db93etc.
If I were you, I would quiz your favorite tackle shop or the ODFW Fishing Report on their site.
Your perception of what most Oregon anglers "want" is mostly correct. At least your query is about an edible fish, unlike the folk who expect to catch LM bass here, like they were in Alabama or wherever. Even the walleye in the Columbia, and the smallies in John Day, are the result of illegal releases of what is to Oregon an invasive species, as are yellow perch and others.
Many of us, Oregon residents, as well as many tourist/sportsmen and sportswomen, regard our waters to be ideally suited for what we emphasize..... salmon, steelhead and trout in variety of species. It is one of the very reasons I moved here 38 years ago from Kansas ... ain't no salmon or steelies in Oz, nor mountains to ski, whitewater rivers to kayak, or an ocean coast to fish.
I'm sure you can find crappie somewhere in Oregon, but the majority of the fishermen I encounter here, are much like me, and have no interest in warm water species, whatsoever..... sorry.
Good luck on your quest.
As a dyed-in-red-flannel Pacific Northwest native... if you want to fish for spiny-rayed trash fish, go back to where you came from. They make good fertilizer under the rhododendrons. Only edible if you soak them in batter and deep fry 'em.
Now ya'll can all come after me! I know you out there...

I hope you find what you’re looking for as it seems you may be lucky enough to have that water all to yourself.
To each…their own, I guess 🤷🏼♂️

Fern Ridge Lake looks like it may be worth a try. There may be a bait shop close by which may be able to provide some useful tips?

But we do have an abundance of crappie.
FoF LoL
Used to fish for Crappie and Bluegill in the slews off the Willamette river around Salem. Probably any back eddy would be worth checking out.
Cottage Grove Lake is very good for Crappie.
Thanks. I'll be looking for them.
That's Mt next stop. Thanks.

Not sure how many answers you've gotten, new to this site. But Eugene Croppie will mainly be in the slews, along with bass, blue gill, and yellow perch. Most slews are private in the area but there are a few public. The one near valley river center may be a good place to start.
Good luck
Thanks BHowell. I'm going to check it out. What bait do you use and does it have to be warmer weather???
