Hey, I know this is a fishing forum, but I’m hoping some outdoorsmen out there may have the answer to my question.

I recently saw the tracks in the attached photos while out on a walk here in central NC. They obviously look Canine to me… but larger than any I’ve ever seen. I’ve seen wolf tracks in Michigan’s UP many times while hunting, and I grew up with a roughly 90lb German Shepard, and these tracks dwarfed both of those. Too big for a coyote, and out of the Red Wolf range. So If anyone has an idea of what animal could’ve made tracks this big, and on a military base in central NC… I’d be very interested to know. My only theory is someone walked out to the trail I was on with a Great Pyrenees, although I say that jokingly. Because I doubt it.

Ever seen a Rodesian Ridgeback? The big ones go about 200+. I have seen a St. Bernard that went over 300 Lbs. LOL.

This is a young (super) wolf track next to my hand print. From the tip of my middle finger to the level of my thumb is 7 inches and it wasn’t a monster wolf. We I saw the wolf at a distance just before I found the track. They get much bigger. My guess is, especially since you have wolves there, it’s probably a wolf track. The super wolf is a genetically modified gray wolf originating in Mexico. They’re captured for some, odd, reason and transported to the U.S. as a government project of some kind. Realeased to dominate the planted gray wolves and form, what they call the “super wolf”. We have lots of them here in the Idaho mountains. I’ve seen several and a friend of mine got this one just north of our place in the Big Salmon River canyon? He’s 6’2”” and weighs 245 pounds.

I’m surprised you have any deer or Elk left. Washington introduced wolves in my neck of the woods about 10 years ago, now we have very few deer and the Elk herd is suffering.

I don’t know JP, but I don’t think I would want to run into it, even if it was friendly. Someone from NC may be able to confirm, but the Red Wolf doesn’t look much larger than a Coyote?

No idea but if I had to venture a guess I’d say it’s Bigfoot’s pet. 😁

You guys don’t watch Mountain Monsters?! That is clearly the track of the Wolfman or Devil Dog.😂. Whatever made that track I don’t want anything to do with it!

Definitely a canine track and a pretty big one at that. Any of the guesses could be the fact.

Carumba, that's a monster, I hope y'all don't hunt these areas alone. They're not sterile, and can interbreed? Do they form packs ? What in the world were they thinking to release these things, surely something else could have been done. Doesn't make sense to me to replace grays with these abominations.
Ranchers must be going crazy over this, it's gonna be a huge problem.
Be careful, Be safe, keep yourselves well armed in their territories.
