I know it’s not cold enough but I’m looking for the best place to trout fish near Menifee, Ca. I grew up fishing at lake Jennings and never caught anything but trout. Never been bass fishing but willing to try. Any tips?

Hi Cindy, welcome to the stage. Both Lake Skinner and Diamond Valley Lake do trout plants. Best is to google the schedule as to when they are, and then fish for them the first 2-3 days after the plant. There is also "Big Bear Lake" which is not too far to drive from Menifee. I mainly fish for Large Mouth Bass (LBM), but on occasion will fish for trout. Good luck!
There is going to be a big trout plant and fishing contest at Lake Hemet the weekend of April 29-May 1. Good luck.
Thanks! Just placed on my calendar.
I went to Lake Skinner a few days ago, and there were some good bass being caught on the west side of the lake along the reeded area.
I'll be there. I hear they are planting some 10 pounders.
Angler’s Little Lake in Hemet, CA. Been awhile and this little pond was drained in recent years, but I heard rumors that it’s open again. Back in the days no license was needed and no limit. Cost was around $15. Nice shady pond surrounded by trees. You could park right up to the bank fish, Barbeque, pitch a tent for the kids, and relax. When my boy’s were little that cut their teeth on trout fishing at Angler’s.
Fridays were the day the owner would drive up to White Rivers trout farm load up and plant at Angler’s.
I personally caught over 33 trout in one day. Power Worm threaded through a Aberdeen light wire hook. Make a long leader 24” to 36” using #2 Maxima. Main line same #2 Maxima thread a plastic bead (orange) clear casting bobber (the one you add water in) another bead and the tie on a very small snap with swivel. Put a loop in the leader and attach to snap. The bobber helps with casting and it being able to float allows you get to the middle of the pond. Dip the power worm in your favorite scent then cast. The worm slowly sinks and all you have to do is snap your rod bring the worm back to the top (yo-yo technique). I use to slay trout at Angler’s Little Lake but since for sometime now I’m a 100% LMB hunter.
My second choice would be Lake Dixon in Escondido, CA. Dottie that 26.7 lb LMB (my numbers may be off a little) got big eating all the trout I didn’t catch.
Good luck

Angler’s Little Lake in Hemet, CA. Been awhile and... (

"My #'s might be A LITTLE bit off"???!!!
Yeah.... since the world record is 22lb4oz.....a "bit off" is being kind.
Your lament is the very reason we Oregonians don't much care for LMB's being in the same waters as our trout....stocking trout becomes a "feeding", and bass don't need any help with that..... tantamount to feeding your dogs filet mignon, in the hopes that they will bring home "that pesky rabbit, without chewing it up too badly".
Do a search for “Dottie caught at Lake Dixon” 25-pounds 1-ounce. Not official but still brought to shore never the least.
So....a caught fish that eclipsed the official records by 3 POUNDS ?!?!? and the only verification of the size is.....????
Okay, you are an 'official' fish storyteller, congrats.
