I'm planning to go after those huge hybrid stripers in Boone Lake, TN in a few weeks. Anybody know anything about deep trolling for them, maybe with an outrigger? Assume I know nothing... Bob McKinney up in SW Virginia (Sugar Grove)

When you say outriggers, I am assuming you mean downriggers, to get down deeper in the lake. Yes, I believe that would be the answer. Just Sayin...RJS

Yeah, I meant downriggers--been out splitting wood this morning and my brain was tired. Been cold and windy here but S. Holston and Boone are both getting back toward full pool and this weekend should be warm. Thanks for the info and correction. I have fished with DOWN riggers out in the salt but they were always operated by the mates.

Dipsey divers are a less expensive alternative to downriggers and work pretty well, just gotta be careful when you make a turn. Make it wide and slow to prevent tangles.

Haven't heard of these--will definitely check out. I don't know why downrigger rigs are so expensive, even the cheapest ones. thanks!

Yeah, downriggers (except in salt) have yet to impress me, and they can be a total pain in the *** to deal with (weight, clip tension, retrieval with non-powered less-expensive ones..etc.).
I agree with the suggestion of "Dipsy Divers", as well as "Jet Divers" (several sizes and scent chamber) and the ubiquitous "lead core line" (I only use about 80'-100', rather than an entire spool) to "get down where they are".
MUCH cheaper, and IMO, just as efficient. Good luck, however you go !

Hey robertm. You need to PM saw1 and talk to him about what he catches all of his stripers on while trolling. He would be a great source of info even though he is in California. After all a striper is a striper is a striper, just some are bigger than others.
