Couldn't tell ya Fred, it's mailed with my Registration dues every 2 years, When I would take the big boat up to Oregon and take my Step -Dad out, he told me , "I don't think Zebra Mussels can read ,can they ?" !!πππ
I get a sticker every month at Clear Lake. $30 a pop. Do I need a State sticker also. You just gotta love the part about your boat being dry, right? I take mine to a car wash and hit it with high pressure soap. The Clear Lake inspectors said that's the best way to do it.

Hey Steve,
The one you get for Clear Lake, is that a mussel sticker?

Here is my boat, as you can see I only have 2021 mussel sticker. Did you receive your 23 sticker from the DMV Jar?
All I received was the green sticker.
Yes OBG, its $16 Mussel Sticker, plus $20 for registration, We belong to AAA insurance , so they do our DMV services there at the Office, no lines ,I'd rather go to get a tooth pulled than to go to the DMV yuk!

Yes it is. They will take your boat from you if they catch you on the Lake without a sticker.

I think it should be a bigger sticker. The mussels might have a hard time seeing that oneβ¦ππon
It's like a lottery ticket. You scratch the surface off and the smell repels mussels
Is that a mussel sticker or just a sticker to fish the lake?

Mussel sticker and they don't let you slide with anything except the Lake County sticker. State sticker is no good at Clear Lake.

Time for me to vent. Had a really bad experience this morning. My wife and I get up early to go fishing at Lake Perris. Beautiful day and she really likes this lake. Get to the gate at 6:40am only to be told I cannot launch because I do not have a mussel sticker on my boat. I say, "What mussel sticker"? Told that you have to go through the DMV to get one and it is separate from your normal boat registration. I ask, "Why did the DMV not inform boaters of this"?
They don't know. Can I buy one here? No, you must go online. They tell me they have turned away over 40 boats in the past few weeks. Needless to say, I am really ticked off. I tell him that I have been to 5-6 other SoCal lakes in the last couple of months and no one has asked for this sticker.
My question to all of you Cal boaters, have you heard of this law?

My apologies to all of you who responded to my vent. My bad. Think I was just ticked off about being turned away.
I was totally wrong about the sticker, as you can see when I posted my boats stickers. Could explain my error, but might take up more of your time. Thanks for all of your support for this Old man.
These mussells are especally damaging in drinking water reservoirs. They clog-up the plumbing used in the purification process. At the lake I usually fish they will install special blue pull-ties attaching the bow to the trailer as I am leaving. When I return there is no need for a reinspection if the pull-ties are still intact. It shows that the boat has not been launched in another (possibly contaminated) lake. I pay my fees, and drive right thru
zebra mussels?
caused lotta problems when i lived in tx
clog up pipes and storm drain run off etc
Mussel stickers and inspections have been the law for some time now. This is the first I have heard of having to purchase through DMV. That's Cal for ya, any chance to get in your pocket.
I do not get one because where I fish it is not a requirement. I fish the delta, bay and ocean but not lakes. The local reservoir where I walk my dogs requires sticker/inspection, and they charge every time for the inspection. They also only allow electric motors, no gasoline. This reservoir is small about 1/2 mile across, and is a drinking water reserve. The electric requirement eliminates my boat any way.

If you go fishing a couple times a week just how do ya get your boat dry?

What they are primarily looking for is a dry bilge. If your boat was dripping water when you were inspected they probably won't pass you. That makes me wonder if they inspect trailer too. It has been in the water.
