Thanks Toro, probably the wave of relief going through me, after finally getting a nice one. That's the biggest Bass I've caught since early fall. The last 5 or 6 trips were all small fish festivals.LOL.

Well I got to the lake about 8:40(roadwork) and it was about 67° with just a light breeze. Surprisingly the water temp @the ramp was 55° in the shade. Went to my usual starting spot,a cove at the north end of the lake, but found nothing swimming. Worked my way south on the sunny, west shoreline and picked up a 1pounder. Worked the entire west side without another bite. When I got to the south end I missed a couple bites in the shallows along the reeds. Worked my way around to the southeast shore and got wacked good. Whatever it was ran into some blowdowns, and broke me off. Took the leader and shreaded the Nanofil, so there might be some metal underwater near the tree. After retieing a new leader, I worked my way into the cove at the dam. No worm bites,so I grabbed the ultralight with the little crappie jig on it. No crappie or perch bites on it around the trees, but did get the little 3/4 lber on it. Worked the dam and along the south side of the cove with the worm rod, and got SLAMMED! After 3 jumps she settled down and came to the net, 2.5lbs . Made my day! Worked my way back to the ramp without another bite. Water temperature at the dam was 57°, and in the shallows 58°. All in all a successful Shakedown run.
No action on topwater, shallow jointed crankbait, or a swimjig with a Keitech Fat Impact. The first and last fish hit a Green Pumpkin Swimming Dinger rigged weightless TR, and the middle fish hit the 1/16 oz ball jig with a chartreuse/clear curly tailed minnow. The one that broke off hit a 5"June Bug Dinger, weightless TR.

Thanks Steve, I was starting to get the shakes,LOL. It was a fun, 75°+ wind free day. The fish were scattered, and not very active considering the 56°-58°water temps. That preview weather is gone now, high 40°s to low 60°s with various showers, wet flurries, wind, and early frost in places, for the next 4 or 5 days. Oh well, what can you do. Thanks buddy.

Thanks Ivey, I needed that day. It was the first fishing friendly weather since I retired. The water is warming rapidly in the small lakes and ponds, but will cool of in the next couple days. My next trip will be to Zoar, and to try the Tightlining rod and technique. I'm looking forward to it.

Good report mr. Fred. When do the bass start spawning in your area of the world ?

Thanks Chuck. Normally around the middle of May into June, but the warm weather, or lack of, determines the actual time. The shallower natural lakes warm up earlier than the river lakes like Lillinonah and Zoar. The water released thru the upstream dams is colder, so it takes longer to warm them up. Throw in this late winter weather we're getting (snow coming Monday night) and that slows it down even more. Hopefully we'll get into a normal pattern soon.

Thanks Bric. It was a sweet day to be out. Warm, calm winds, and a few fish. What more could you ask for.

Nice Job. I'm hoping to get out before I head down to La. for a couple of weeks. Mom duty, which is an honor. IL lost my Connecticut River monitoring station - someone cut funding so I'm flying blind now. But, if I can't get out until I get back, so be it. Just try not to catch them all Fred.

Thanks Harry. Good luck if you get out. Have a safe trip to La. and give my best to your mom.
It's always about the money.
Don't worry buddy, I'll save a few for you.
