I grew up fishing with my grandfather in Oklahoma who built many of the private ponds and lakes around the South Western parts of the state. So we had access to fish most of them. Getting up before the crack of dawn, everything loaded up to go. My favorite was on my uncle's ranch, the main fishing hole was a 15 acre dammed up gravel pit filled with Crappie, Catfish, huge black bass and lot's of bluegill. There's something different about fishing private water's, the fish have never seen a spinner bait or a top water buzz bait swimming bye, so they attack your lures like crazy. The #2 pond a short drive behind the lake was slam full of channel catfish, huge Pumpkin seed perch and Bluegill that hung near the spillway, they were some of grandpa's favorite to eat and full of bullfrog we hunted at night. My father, Grandpa and all four son's came in after dark with 22s and spotlights and burlap sacks. Once we got a good mess of fish and frog legs cleaned, the women would make the best country breakfast you've ever laid your eye's upon. Grandpa aways told me, you don't need fancy fishing gear, stick with what you know works. I must say, for me he was right. Knowing where fish are, what makes them bite and feed your family fish and even if you don't catch fish you've had a good time outdoors. Grandpa is gone now and most of my family but two brothers, but our memories of those fishing trips never fades.

Terrific story Pb. Are you able to pass on the tradition? Would like to read some more stories like yours as much as i would like to try frog legs for breakfast. Does sound good.
Just sayin, there is as much meat on the front of the frog as the back !
I learned that from my Granpaw after one of our outings !

I don't think bull frog's get as big as those in the 60's around that area of Oklahoma, but some had drumstick size hind and nice fronts too. Nothing was wasted
Those are great memories. Your grandpa was right. The fish donβt know if you top of the line gear Or Walmart specials
He left a great legacy! Fun times
