Air temp at launch 27, warming to 51. Water still cold at 40 and pretty much crystal clear… managed a few smallmouth that I located on the new live scan, but still not much happening yet in the shallows. But I would occasionally see balls of bait suspended in 20 ft, with fish working the edges. I suspected they were not my targeted species, and tossed a drop shot into the middle. As I thought, they were Lake Trout and hungry. Well, I can never resist going tight, so I managed about 6 of them between 6-8 lbs. Also fun on the light stuff. Fish ate the drop shot, swimbaits and small tubes. It’s only gonna get better too. Can’t wait. Tight lines to all.

i fished Flathead, Hungry Horse, Swan, and Kocanusa back in the 70s spring time runs of different species up the streams from the big lakes were outstanding. Monster Dolly Vardons to 20 lbs hitting 10" plugs was nothing short of unbelievable. There weren't any smallmouth in the lakes back then. I found Millacs in Minnesota for the 21 to 25" Smallies. I loved my yrs. in the Flathead valley/Bigfork Thank you for bringing those memories back.

Cool to see you in action again! If I put in at Polson, can I catch these in the river section or the lower west shore? Excited about fishing again!!

That's a beautiful place you've got there JB. The pics in the water are great. Do you hoist them or release them in the water? The one's ain't headed for the grill. I've got those old tin tongs, work well. If I could catch a fish.

I haven’t fish down there yet, but have great intel that there is good largemouth fishing down that way too. It’s on my agenda. With so little pressure on these bodies of water, there’s ton of fish to be had…

A little of both. The Lakers are pretty heavy so I just keep them in the water and remove hook… unless I take a pic with my fat face with it…

Yea. Size and weight are obvious in a picture. No point in stressing a fish by lifting it you don't mean to keep. I'll eat every keeper I want to and baby the rest for release. Course I gotta catch one first. Our spring striper run is here. Steelhead are still here. Sneaking out between chores. You sure can catch fish.
