Newbie needing some help.
Guess we're pretty much all in the same boat, age-wise; damn boats' getting pretty crowded - gotta be careful not to tip it or may end up with a whole lot of geezers in the drink ! Can you all swim well ?

With a pdf sure.
This side of the dirt will do for now.
Go to
www.mysticparts.comor look on ebay
That flat plate on the reel pictured above is designed to keep the handle nut from falling off, they do that frequently. The nut is a separate part, and will probably fit your reel. It's a common part, and I have found them at both places listed above.
Welome a47.
Helping right off the bat.
Mr puddle jumper. I continue to use my "outdated" ambassadors for catfishing. I get all my parts off ebay. I've never needed a part I couldn't get there. Do a couple searches. Ambassador parts & ambassador 5000 parts.
Good luck, you'll find your part. Use that reel & catch a biggen!
Puddle Jumper: If all else fails, my reel can still be your fall-back !
Incidentally, if our reels are that similar, maybe you could give me some insight as to my reel's
value ? Still no luck finding it on the 'net'; prices are all over the place ! Can't get it pinpointed, or even get a ball-park figure !
Might be easiest to look up a local reel repair shop. If not, a new reel might be a better solution. Good Luck

I was in my teens had the same problems.
All good.
There must have been an epidemic then; same thing..... hehe
Welcome Puddle from Alabama Bill. I love Abu reels and even have 3 with a life time warranty. They want receipts and my first born child to rework my reels. I've been picking one up o there and replacing them with lesser known company but have been surprised at how they have held up since I am not tournament fishing any more. I am retired and on disability so I know it's tough with fixed income. I save up and continuously look for deals.
Thanks everyone for the helpful information on fixing my reel. As luck would have it, I found a 5000C in a local pawn shop for. It was pretty rough but had the part I needed so now I have extra parts for my 5000C. Thanks for all your help!
A pawn shop? Never would of thought about that, thanks for letting so many know. Next to see is what this fixed up reel can bring home. Tight lines P J
I have purchased several Abu Garcia reels at pawn shops for very reasonable prices. They may be a little banged up on the outside, but usually they have been used very little, and are like new on the inside, except for needing a good cleaning and re-lubing.
My new go to place. Treasures galore!
