What kind of reel you’all call this ? It’s a pretty light action I have used for trout with the bubble float. But my main ultralight is a 7ft Berkley trout ultralight with 4 lb hybrid mono/floro line. I have a Shimano 200 series rear drag spinning reel.

I'd call it a unique Spincast. Obviously it will only work on the matching rod.

Probably about 60 years old. Bronson 63 Later acquired by True temper. The front is open like a spinning, but the mechanics are more like spincast. The front drag was effective to reduce line twist. Very simple inside and easy to maintain. I got this rod when I was probably about 10 years old. Mail order from the Spiegle catalog. Still a favorite rod, but just very careful because it’s pretty much irreplaceable.

No idea what that is. Where's that line coming from? And it looks like the reel is attached to the underside of a casting rod?
Like I said Help, if you're not careful . . . . . . . .

Using ultra light Ocuma 6.6 2 PC rod, ocuma 30 open face ultra light real.
20 lb branded line that floats, w monofilament 6lb test attached plus leader the length of my pole.

I fish a fly and a bubble mostly. My bubble is filled with water. Use pistal pete flies mostly. These have a small silver propeller up by the hooks eye.
I also fish meps ultra light lures using the same boober method.
This works amazingly well.

Let me know if any of you have used this method? There is a technique to it that you need to learn, but it's a real blast when you get it down.
It's the only way I trout fish anymore.

Try tying the bobber on the end of the line. Attach two flys on droppers above about 2 feet apart. You can then make them dance by twitching the rod top. Sometimes it beats all other methods.

I believe that is one of the first spinning reels to come out 50-60 or maybe 70 years ago, but I'm only 68 years so not sure about the birthdate.

Looks like your rod handle could use a little cleaning and sealing

Used to catch nice lake trout at Taylor Reservoir 30-40 years ago. Sure is cold in that country, but liked it fine.

I use 2 ultra light open faced spinning reel, rod combinations. I've used them exclusively for smallmouth, largemouth bass and pan fish for decades. If you've never used one, you don't know what you're missing. Every fish is a challenge. Can't use it for Northern Pike and similar fish. But, every fish is a pole bender. Nothing like it for "catch and release." Put a small "Mister Twister" minnow or grub on a small "lead head jig," drag it on the bottom, and get ready ! By the way, this is for fresh water fishing ~ John

I believe I would call it antique reel. I have heard it called a spin cast and a closed face reel. I have always used closed face reel as it seems to eliminate confusion. A spinning reel is an open faced reel with a bail. The same problem seems to exist between a bait casting reel and a level wind. Actually a bait casting reel can be with or without level wind and is often use without bait. So who is going to take this and run with it?

That’s a Tru-Temper Uni-spin. I don’t remember the year, but I remember the outfit because a friend’s dad had one.
I believe his had two interchangeable tips.
