Looks like a Pileated Woodpecker?
Never heard them called wood hens, but it definitely is a pileated woodpecker. They are regulars at our northern Mi feeder

Yes indeed.
I remember the first reported sighting (in our family) by my Dad while deer hunting in the late 70s. He went on and on about the 5lb woodpecker he saw from his blind…
We laughed it off until I saw it the next day. It wasn’t 5#, but it had to be close to 18” tall and it sounded like someone hitting a 2x4 with a hammer when he found a dead tree he liked for whatever bugs he was after.
We jokingly refer to them as pterodactyls

I’ll bet…probably a distant relative 😉
that's exactly we feed 2 of them what it is buddy
They were nearly all killed off because of its color. They do make a heck of a lot of noise.
Sure is a pile of them now. I see them all the time when I am out hunting
I haven’t tried that yet Hunt, but they sure are annoying

They might just go good hot off the smoker! As Robert would say - just saying!
Good one followed by eagle video which was better. Thanks for posting
Yeah, had one wake me up the other day. I see the little black and white ones more often. HATE when they wake me up pecking on my cedar shake house. That's a racket!!!
