Great points. Luckily I have both covered. I have a pair of prescription ray bans that are polarized, large lenses to protect my eyes and they cut the water glare really well. I also bring a Leatherman multitool to remove hooks, cut like, etc. It has screwdrivers as well

I fish "regularly" very often, so I have stuff like what you mentioned as well as nets that someone else mentioned already. Thanks for helping though, the eye protection part is absolutely critical and many people who are new will not consider it!

Coolio.

I also carry along a Leatherman and it would fill 80% of my needs. However, once into 10" trout and sz16 or smaller flies, it is a little on the bulky side.

I would not worry about these right now, but keep it in the back of your mind for later: https://www.drslick.com/catalog/view_item/clamps/scissor-clamp

Yes, but get a longer one. I've had 5 over the years and my latest is long enough to reach into the back of muskys mouth, but small enough to work well on small trout. Medical supply stores have some really good ones.

I have been using Jawbreakers for bass with pretty good success. The ones I use are black white brown and olive.

Why didn’t you ask the fly shop where you bought your rod ? They I’m sure they could have answered all your questions , rigged you up correctly and offered solid advice on species you intend to fish for now .
Probably even offered a casting lesson !

If I might add ah couple more to your list that won't break the bank. (1) Is toe nail size clippers with convex cutting jaws rather then concave. Great for snipping monofilament leaders or fly line, makes clean cuts and it saves on your teeth. (2) Is called a "No-Knot Eyelet). Comes in a packet of a dozen and that will almost be a lifetime supply. Contact Cabala's for that purchase if you can not find them at your local sporting goods store. Picture an EYE BOLT in your mind that's soooo small that you need a needle nose pliers to hold the eye while you hold your fly line in your other hand and shove the bolt end into the center of your fly line 'til only the eye is left showing. There are a couple "barbs" on that little eye bolt end that prevent the eyelet from being pulled out of the fly line. Now you have something to tie your leader to and the other end to your "BUG". Then you can practise tying your leader to the no-not and to the bug so that the monofilament will not slide off either end. Maybe some one else here can name the knots and explain how to tie them. I know how to tie 'um but not the knot names. Sorry, Jer

A trick that works:
People often believe that if a bream or bass bug isn't moving, it isn't working. False. If it is on the water it is working. If you aren't getting hits, put the bug on the water and let it sit for a full thirty seconds. That will seem like forever, but let it sit. Twitch. Little, barely visible twitch. If nothing happens, give it another ten and bring it on in. Some of the largest bass I've caught were right after that little twitch. If you watch a live bug on the water, that is how they frequently behave.
