The instructor guy I mentioned once wrote a letter to the editor of our local paper here in Dayton
It was a response to something published “ guns kill people “
He showed me a picture of his response in the paper
It said something like
“ I tested the theory about guns killing people. I took my 12 Gauge out on the front porch and a cooler of beer , set the gun leaning against the wall.
Musta had 50 people pass by while walking their dogs and what not, while I was out there . Not one time did the gun kill anyone.
Either my gun is lazy or defective , but I couldn’t get it to just up and shoot someone. What am I doing wrong?”
Sent a pretty powerful message

Another side note. I’m probably the nicest , gentlest guy you could ever meet . Just ask my kids and grandkids. But if someone’s threatening to harm my wife who I live more than mt my own life . My training kicks in. It kinda surprised me myself.
I don’t go around viciously attacking people. I’m typically supportive of all races , ethnicitity and sexual orientation. Except trans. I don’t understand that but I’m trying.

And the last violent episode at in SERE school where an interrogator slapped me in the right ear one too many times.
I literally tried to stomp that guys brains out. After I knocked him to the ground with zip tied hands to the front . I was without sleep for like 80 hours and this guy really pissed me off

I’m still deaf in that ear.
I never knew his name. I’m certain he remembers mine. They had to air flight him.
I almost got courtmartialed but they ruled he was excessive.

Update.
I’m geared up thanks to the local Cabelas
Winchester SXP tactical loaded with federal Force X2
And a Smith and Wesson M&P 9
Both with flashlights on the rails .
Had to order a clip load assist device. $12 on Amazon
Those little 9mm and my arthritic fingers don’t play well together.

I have the Winchester tactical with the light on the rail. It’s my home defense weapon. I pity the fool that meets me in the middle of the night with it in hand. Pray it never happens but I guarantee I’m shooting first and asking questions later. Great choices IMO. Has your wife ever shot a gun. Mine hadn’t when we met and really enjoyed it when she learned.

My wife has never seen a weapon of any kind except on TV
My guy , who I trust seriously is gonna bring his 22s and 380s and take her to the range.
Without me. I think that’s best.
She will want one of her own after that . Zl

My wife liked our 44 as long as she had "special loads" which weren't nothing like the 44 mag loads lol💥

Some people can't shoot a 9mm semi auto. They limp wrist it, and it becomes a single shot. For them a revolver may be a better choice.

Good plan my wife would learn better/faster being taught be someone who isn’t me. Takes the husband/ wife dynamic away and just creates a teacher/ student relationship.👍🏻

Ben, I think everyone on the stage could learn a valuable lesson from your experience. I have never needed to do anything like what you did but I only think I am ready in the event needed. When someone is threatening a member of your family you were able to unleash the tiger from within.
Very good job and I'm pleased that you didn't get hurt. Bill

Regardless of gun/caliber/gauge choice, regular practice i paramount. Putting it in a drawer or closet and not being intimate with the operations is the worst, if a bad guy takes it away from you. Practice, Practice, Practice.
I feel shotgun shooting trap/skeet/sporting clays is more fun and rewarding but not so good for concealed carry. Joining a club that does some form of action pistol can be great fun too.

Ben, been there, done that. I actually had to shoot someone. He saw I had a firearm, in my hand, and still came at me with a knife.
Whitey you are so right. More people are killed with a .380 than with any other cal. The one reason, is that most people don't miss with one. It is merely a self protection, from someone that is only a few feet from you, and coming in. That is my personal carry weapon. The Sig is with me almost always, and I hope I will never use it.

Last thing I want is to get kicked of the stage but does anyone think it's funny that their are those that want to take guns away from law abiding citizens but nothing is mentioned on how to take guns away from criminals?
Just a question

If you are looking for a logical, common sense answer to that question, I think you will be terribly disappointed.

Expect little from people. You are seldom disappointed.
