Does anyone use Spoon Plugs for their bass fishing and if so how and when do you? What type of lakes/rivers are best when using this technique?

Early spring to late summer, very slow trolling, in lakes that you are familiar with, using a depth finder. You would like water with rock, gravel, or muddy bottoms. You need to go around or over brush piles, log jams, etc., or you will get hung up. This is where familiarity with the water is important. I have never fished rivers w/spoonplugs because of the current

Yes I have been a spoonplugger since mid 80s .But using a spoonplug is just a tool same as any other plug. But being a spoonplugger is having knowledge.
Spoonplugging was a word coined years ago, to express the things thought necessary to become a GREAT fisherman. To state it simply as possible, Spoonplugging is knowing what makes a fish tick, and what must be done to put him on the stringer. It could be stated another way: In order to catch a fish, we must be at the RIGHT PLACE, at the RIGHT TIME, and fishing in the RIGHT MANNER.

SPOONPLUGGING is an all inclusive word. It is a total concept for successful fishing. It is an understanding of how fish live, his habits, his instincts, his reaction to stimuli, how weather and water conditions affect him, where he is likely to be found under various conditions, and what it takes to put him on the stringer at that particular time

It is an orderly and precise manner in which to fish. It is confidence in one's fishing; the removal of fear in fishing strange waters and for strange species. It is the full understanding that there is no magic shortcut to success; and that successful fishing is predicated on knowledge and the implementation of this knowledge.

It is the willingness to put forth effort. It requires no special talent or ability to learn, only a strong desire to catch fish. We would wrap it all together and say, instead of the word 'Spoonplugging' -- "Knowledge is the key to fishing success"

I have “SPOON PLUGED” the Chain of Lakes in Northern Illinois for many years. I have the Buck Perry rods, reels, line and Spoon Plugs. I am not a expert on the technique but I was able to be successful.. I would fish Little Bay De Noc in Wisconsin for Walleyes and Northern Pike In 30+ feet.. The White, Silver and Gold colors would produce the best when tipped with a piece of “SUCKER” about the size of a 50 cent pice... My fishing partner Ray Anderson and I would clean up fishing this technique... Yes I have the equipment and knowledge and can back up what I am saying, I am not a “BLOW HARD” like so people accuse me of being...
