I guess look at it from a different point of view.

If you had to choose between a Stradic and a BG, the Stradic wins every time. $300 and under, Shimano has that covered. $300 - $1000, Daiwa has better reels (with the exception of the Saragosa over the Saltist), $1000 and over, well they are all good.

Tbh spinning reel dont have much too then unlike baitcasters. Meaning you start running into diminishing returns the more you spend. Having owned a bunch from a few manufactures i now look at specs, features, price, and online reviews. Since theyre classed by specs mostly that point is kinda mute. The special features aside from special bearings on spinning reels are rare so when i heard about baitfeeders i got interested in trying one out. Since i was in college at the time i tried to keep it cheap and wanted to try out kastkings stuff. More specifically the Sharky Baitfeeder III. Freaking love it especially for the price. The only complaint i could come up with is the spinning guide (not sure what its called) does flex a bit under extreme loads (more than what the drag is rated for, was holding the spool)

None, get a Baitcaster instead, like a Shamano.

My opinion is buy last year model and select in their mid-price range.. Rods and reels are constantly evolving and the latest and greatest are always coming out next year... When I lived in Illinois I had a connection with a source that I was able to buy rods and reels at a very large discount... When the new line came out I would sell everything at 1/2 price and start the process over again... I had a group of fishing friends who would tell me that they wanted to be first in line.. I ended up letting them know when and they would draw from a deck of cards for their picking order... Never had any problems everyone was very happy...

My two cents: I've been fishing for over 60 years and I swear by Shimano reels. I don't own a Stella but I do own a couple of Stradics and I'm sure I will never have to replace them. Stradic is a damn fine reel, treat it right and it won't disappoint. And it will do all the things you mentioned.

You can’t beat Pflueger Presidential for price and dependability. Stradics are great but $40 versus $200!

My Shimano Stradic Cl4 has been fantastic for redfish. Meets all your criteria, I think.

First suggestion; Instead of going to on-line sites (Amazon/E-bay) for pricing or research, have you gone first to the manufacturer's site ? Also, depending on your particular budget, three brands/models come to mind, starting with the lowest price ! Okuma Avenger ABF-B series Baitfisher/Shimano
Baitrunner D/Penn Spinfisher V ! If I read it right, the main difference between a regular spinning reel and the Baitfisher/Baitrunner/
Spinfisher reels is the secondary drag system ! Could be that a little extra research into these type reels could pay decent dividends in quality and smoothness of operation ! Can't hurt to look !

Well if you are going to be surf fishing I have both van staal and z bass. They are excellent reels but cost more than most. They are sealed and you can crank them under water. Penn slammer is good too.

Shimano, Diawa, and Pflueger are all good mid-priced reels. Try them out at your local sporting goods store and you'll find one that likes you best
