I have never served. My parents lived through WWII in Europe(they were 13 & 14 in 1939). They both spent time in Russian concentration camps. Dad escaped and at 17 was pulled into the German army. My parents shared their experiences about the war so I've always been interested in war history. I know almost all the war movies by heart. Many are Hollywood BS, some are more realistic. What I think I know is no movie portrays how awful it is to be in it. I feel bad for all of you that have gone through it and I have the most respect for every one of you that has served in the military whether you fought or were supporting the fight or ready and knowing you could be called into a fight at any time. Respect.

Ranger and I were just talking about those last week. I showed him mine on my key chain and he grabbed his key chain and showed me his. You can open a can pretty darn fast with those.

I remember Marine chopper crews cutting C 4 up, lighting it and heating c rats on the parking apron at Da Nang. Used to tell them the USAF chow hall (galley to them) was open to all. Many were quite grateful for that info.
Ah, the memories that pop up with such little reminders!

My dad was career army '64 - '86 so we had a bunch of P-38s around when I was a kid. In fact when I first moved out on my own a p-38 was the only can opener I had. Whenever my dad would go "out in the field" he would always bring me C rations home especially when he was getting close to retirement because they were phasing out C rations and introducing MRE's.
