What would you guys recommend for the best cat fish bait on lake Jordan ? Gong on vacation there about May 28 -June 1st
Ken jahna: My experience is that catfish generally will eat almost anything. Big blue Cats 20 lbs and above, favor live bait, like perch, or sunfish. A lot of folks use chicken parts.
I have heard of 'oldtimers' using road kill. They would take a dead animal they've picked up on the road, tie it up over a likely spot a foot or so, above a likely spot. When the roadkill ripens, mature maggots will begin dropping into the water, feeding the catfish below. Then they will drop a baited hook at that spot. Yes, I know! Not for everyone, but you might go back and read the 'Redneck post'. Just Sayin...RJS
Interesting story . Actually a pretty clever way to bait the water đź‘Ť
I do know about the blue gill baits did that before caught a few big cats . Just trolling for info about done thing I might not know about yet .
Thanks for the response always willing to learn new things .
There is always the universal bait: Canadian nightcrawlers. The big fat ones that you have to keep in the ice chest.
Night crawlers are my go to most times for cat fish . Along with a circle hook recently . Used to use just the plain old standard hooks .
I’m from NC and fished Jordan Lake many times for Crappie. The lake is full of Crappie. But you asked about Cat Fish. I took two brothers out Cat Fishing and I used my “go to bait” Night Crawlers. I was catching fish but they were catching way more than me. I asked what they were using and they said “hot dogs”. They broke off a 1” section of raw hot dog and put it on their hooks.
When I fish for Cat Fish now, I may have a Night Crawler on one line but you better believe I have a hot dog on the other.
A warning. Jordan Lake was created by damed the rivers and caused flooding. All of the trees and debris are still there. You will loose a lot of equipment fishing on the bottom.
Thanks for the info on cat fish . I have heard of hot dogs among other things .
You did mention croppy that I love yo fish for .
What’s your advice on that fish and best ways to catch them ?
Also thanks for the info about the debris on the bottom I didn’t know about that . But I bet that provide a ton of cover for all the crappie .
