Thank you bobber22 & captjim. Too cold and wet for this ol'man and his grandchildren 4 & 8 yrs old at this time. Teaching the 4 yr old how to cast - SOMEWHERE! - taught the 8 yr old around that age, still catches trees, shrubs, clothes, self, other lines etc. a long learning curve - haha. Please keep posting and I hope to report our successes in EBRP.

Good day sir, I have taught my 2 kids and now working on my 2 grandkids casting. I use a plastic practice lure in the back yard. Starting with a 3x3 piece of cardboard about 10-20' away, then moving on to a bucket. Keeps them entertained for a while. Good luck

Try Los Vaqueros in the east bay between Livermore & Brentwood. Always catch something there. Great for bass, trout, cats and striped bass. Shore, docks, bait shop and boat rentals. Known for big fish.
Contra Loma is to the north, also has a great reputation. Also try Bethany, closer to hwy 580/Livermore. Great for bass, cats, panfish and stripers. Clean clear water, lots of visible weedlines to fish. No services except an outhouse & almost everytime I go, I am the only person there. Amazing in the bay area to have such a beautiful place all to myself. There are windbreaks and bbq grills.
Be warned- check WIND forecast before going. It can get so windy that you can't even stand up, let alone fish. Other than that, it's awesome.
Tight Lines to you !

mdeadman54 and Scottm7961 thanks for your posts. I'll have to try your bucket method, as my grandson needs to learn accuracy. I generally stick to East Bay Regional Parks to fish as I get an annual senior parking pass and I'm getting too old to dive solo to my favorite the Sierra trout streams.

I volunteer for "CAST for Kids" and have been to Los Vaqueros taking the disabled kids fishing. Kind of far to solo drive for me, I do take precautions napping if needed.

Tight lines for 2022.

Fishing buddies, I'll be out of circulation for a while. Wife's getting hip replacement surgery.
