I’m looking into buying my first bait-caster for under one hundred dollars; any recommendations?

If you fish saltwater I would spend the extra 40 and get the concept z by 13 fishing... Just picked one up on Amazon for 140 they used to be two hundred a year ago.

Finally convinced my dad to get rid of his 10 year old Cabelas Fish Eagle for a Fuego and he's so happy with it lol

Yep. SLX or Fuego are the way for OP to go in my opinion.

Less of a review and more of a broad overview of a bunch of current $100 reels.

I would also suggest looking at the Daiwa Fuego CT. It’s an older reel with a proven track record and one of the best braking systems you’re going to find at that price point. They used to be extremely cheap on eBay, around $50, but now I think they’re usually closer to 70 or 80.

Literally just picked up an Abu Garcia pro max last night for $79. Haven't gotten a chance to use it yet, but it feels good in the hand and is smooth as butter when reeling empty.

Check out www.kastking.com for many choices of top quality reels at under $100. Look at brake systems and reel speeds before making a decision. I started with the Spartacus Plus with a great brake system for first time users and 6.3 retrieve for only $46.
