Need a good LMB recipe
My dad always gives me crap about not eating any of the fish I catch since I grew up saltwater fishing and we ate most of the stuff we caught. I just picked up freshwater fishing a few months ago and understand that no one really eats bass but I’d like to give one a try someday just out of curiosity.
Anyone have a recipe they’ve used, preferably for a grill. Also what is the best size to eat? I imagine the ones on the smaller end would taste better. Thanks in advance!

My dad would always just use salt, pepper, and garlic then wrap it in tinfoil with butter and onions and throw it on the grill. Always came out delicious!

I love eating small mouth bass. Just scale and filet, dip in beat eggs, coat in bread crumbs or crushed corn flakes, and pan fry in oil until golden brown. Its delicious. I cook bass the same way as pan fish and crappie.

We always fried it growing up. Dredge it in egg coat it in mixture of flour, cornmeal, salt, pepper, and whatever else you would like ( or you could use store bought breading). Then drop it in the fryer. When it floats it’s done. I’ve also done it on the grill in tin foil with butter, lemon juice, salt, pepper, a little old bay and maybe some rose marry. When it’s flakey your good to go.

I’ve only ever had LMB bear battered.

Lots of people eat bass but you get these die-hard catch and release fisherman who go apeshit whenever people talk about eating them, so I guess people don’t talk about it as much anymore cause they don’t want the drama. In places where the bass populations aren’t abundant I can understand, but anywhere else... fry em up!

I am a catch and release guy. I don't eat Lg Mouth because they SUCK.
Bleed them immediately after the catch and then put them on ice. After that, follow newsilverdad's advice. Delicious.
Fryin' Magic

Fryin' Magic Seasoned Coating Mix, Walmart normally has it in stock or you can order on line. Best chicken, fish and seasoned coating Mix. You can mix with beer 🍺, milk or what you prefer. I only deep fried in a pot at 325 degrees use 4 to 5 fillets depending upon the size. Once they float to the surface remove and let drain and a paper towel. Keep covered or people will eat them before you can finish your cooking.. I use peanut 🥜 oil but it’s your choice. Nothing like a good fish fry with cornbread and a iced down beer...
40 years ago they tasted just fine. Been that long ago but bass caught in green or clear water tasted fine. Black water the tannin`s get into the fish, black backs on bass taste a little muddy like. Soak overnight in milk marinade to minimize strong taste and if grilling throw in some Italian dressing too! Sticks less and makes strong fish taste good.
As one of those crazy bass fisherman I would recommend the smaller size (legal size) to eat. Any of the previous recipes would work. At tournaments we always practice catch and release but for those fish that may die, we ensure someone takes them home for a meal.
I fillet 'em, bone side and skin side---dredge in flour, with salt, pepper and garlic powder---fry in small amount of oil and butter combo.....serve with lemon....simple and excellent in my opinion....
I catch quite a few but have never eaten one........Im going to try some!
Along with the nice looking freshwater drums I catch!
Lmb is great white meat, try blackened if you like spicy
