Does anyone fish saltwater and attach the artificial baits directly to the braid. Or do you attach leader to the braid and attach the artificial bait to the leader?

Fluoro leader for me. Have catches both ways but more with the leader,

Fresh or sal Ve always used a modest length of flouro appropriators the strength of fish and how shy they are. Find a knot to se nless you just use a quality double eye swivel. Then just a Palomar for the braid and an improved clinch for the flouro or other favorite knot.

Rather than long leaders, I've gone to 18" leaders and small swivels that
aren't reeled thru the rod tip -- no more worrying about splice knots. I don't
see a difference in getting strikes, although it might make a difference in crystal-clear
water, which I seldom fish.

Depends on the clarity of the water but a fluor leader never hurts.

I've done the same thing.
I went 25 inch or alittle bit more.
Haven't notice any difference and much easier.
Have a great year fishing and safe times on the water.
