My father-in-law was a tail gunner / turret gunner on a B-29 out of Tinian in the Pacific Theater. He was in the same air wing as the Enola Gay. Their crew went in the drink three times doing long range bombing on Japan at the end of the war. They ran out of gas twice and were shot down once. Amazingly, everyone in his crew survived all three situations, even being strafed once with bullets from a fighter while in life rafts.
I cannot argue with the phrase "The Greatest Generation"!

Absolutely the Greatest Generation. I think many years in the future it will be even more so. We will of been very lucky to of lived even a portion of the greatest generations life.

My uncle was paratrooper was out and under a chute about 50 times but he said he never jumped once, they had to push him every time
