I'm seriously thinking about a 2000, Monarch 22' Pontoon, with a 2013, 60 hp Suzuki ob with 60 hours on it. I have seen a lot of Monarch flat bottoms around but never a Monarch Pontoon. 20 years ago you would never see a Suzuki ob around, now they are all over the place. Your thoughts on each, please. I know Mel doesn't think the Suzuki can swim very well, but how does it run? Sorry, Jeremy, I could help it, plum made me say that.

OK it was a 20hp with a pull start. 1/2 pull to prime, next pull it started every time. It was a very quiet runner. I had no problems with it and liked it very much. Reliable is good.

I have a friend who owns a 150 and has been very pleased with it, no problems. Also talked to a boat mechanic where I have work on my Merc. done. The words he used for the new 4 stroke Suzuki's were "they're bullet proof" and he doesn't sell them but trying to get them in his stock.

Lots of them down on the coast and in the marsh. Mostly lower HP range like the 60 on crabbers boats. As much as they put those motors through, I think they know something.

I own a 90 hp Suzuki, love it, wouldn't have any other. Never had a problem, outstanding on fuel consumption, quiet, and reliable. What else can I say.

Thanks guys, I know you see a ton of them on the Gulf Coast, all of the way from FL. to South TX. Honda, Yahmaha, Suzuki and then Mercs.

Never heard anything bad about them. Only thing to think about is if there is a mechanic near you to service it or work on it if you do have to take it in. . I hade Hondas and the nearest mechanic was more then an hour away. That's one reason I got Yamahas.

I had a Suzuki motorcycle back in the 1960's. When the chain failed and jammed the drive sprocket, 4th gear was broken. It took a year and a half to get a replacement. I even went to Suzuki's US headquarters, but they lied to me just to get me to go away.

I realize that this was all more than a half century ago and that Suzuki has likely changed a lot, but I still have a grudge against them. So, no Suzuki's for me, never again.

On the other hand, I've always been an Evinrude guy and now there ain't no mo' Evinrude. Guess I just have to settle for a paddle?

Buy a Suzuki or a Yamaha. These are the two best outboards out there. After well over a hundred trips to Canada I can honestly say I have never seen an issue with either of those. As to others, I typically see a failure almost every year. The marina near where I go stocks a full line of Mercury parts. They don't stock any Yamaha or Suzuki parts. Same with resort owners. Most of their motors are Yamahas. Very few Mercurys.

bought one about 40 years ago and had it on a 14' Valco. Always dependable. Gave that outfit to one of my sons. Don't know how good the new era are.

I put a Suzuki 175HP on our boat 3 years ago. Quiet to the point when I’m idling at the dock people wonder if it’s running. Runs well, No problems with it.
