Greetings....
So my wife Jeanne and I are spending our first winter as official snowbirds😎
We are camping by Parker Dam, and very interested in some input/ info about some fishing in the lower basin (or anywhere) for the red ear sunfish I've heard about...
Originally from Michigan, and now in Idaho last 6 years...love to fish for anything, but always have a soft spot for pan fish..always return to Michigan each spring to fish for Bluegills with son and grandkids...
Have 16 ft with 30 hp to get out on the water...just looking for a little start up info...
Spent one day so far exploring the area around the mouth of the Bill Williams river.River..
Thanks in advance....just looking for general info...in Michigan for gills it's all top water for us...
Go to the local sports store and they can help. Also try and fish for strippers while near the dam.
Regarding red-ear sunfish - the two
fish in the photos were both 17 inches, the top one weighing in at
5.78 lbs. and the other at 6.3 lbs. ! They were caught off the western (California) shoreline of Lake
Havasu - one was caught in
California Bay, about a half-mile
north of the Copper Canyon area !
It seems the sudden growth spurt
of the 'sunnies' (and bass) in the
Lake Havasu area strongly corresponds/coincides with the
incursion of the invasive quagga mussel, which were first discovered
in the lake around 2007 - since then, the red-ear sunfish have gorged themselves on the mussels and have nearly tripled in size, as they seldom exceeded a maximum average of
two pounds before the incursion !
Avoid them strippers, they're only after your money.
