Folks wonder why we fish .
Some of us are addicted to fishing , some are just casual fishermen and women.
I think the core among all of us is we fish for the beauty of it .
Fly fishermen get the low down grass roots of standing in a stream , with the most primal of presentations in a stream that is just wonderful to be in
Surf casters brave the challenges the sea has to offer
Cat fishermen from the banks has the spot figured out and wait for the bite.
Bass fishermen are a whole different breed. We go for whatever it takes .
Pan fishermen develop plans to limit out on their tasty catch
Musky fishermen are just like, well nothing else .
And offshore salt anglers. Well they are just lucky enough to get to do it!
My opinion is we all do this for the beauty of the sport.
The primal desire to do battle with an unseen prey.
The ability to lure the species. Whatever species to commit to mortal combat.
To me it’s a science I try to refine with every cast of every trip I make.
It’s perfection to me. It’s me against a wild animal.
Where is she , what’s she doing , what will it take to get her to play.
All in a world that ain’t made of concrete , and there are no deadlines , or lines you have to stay in , or schedules to keep

Get skunked , oh well.
Limit out, good stories over a campfire. Or at the tavern or with your kids or grandkids.

And oh catch a big one. Well that’s something to talk about for years !

I think we do this for the beauty of the whole experience. The scene , the hunt, the battle . The high fives from your friend who netted it .
And the honor to return a big girl after you won to go on livin and to fight another day

When I’m fishing Ben, I feel free of any pressures I might feel at home. I look in awe at the beauty surrounding me. I smile when I notice a dad teaching his son how to cast a line. I think about my granddaughter and how much I love to take her fishing and the expression on her face if she catches one. When I get to fish I constantly think about the big one I’m going to catch. I love nature and what it brings into my heart to keep me going. I think about how excited I’m going to be when I share my fishing tale and pictures to all the guys and gals on the Stage.
The picture is my adopted granddaughter, Paityn, I took fishing.

Cool picture and memories being made. Hope your granddaughter catches the big one you were thinking about.

I truly believe fishing is ingrained in our DNA from our hunter gathering days. The thrill and adrenalin rush that come with catching that big one still to this day get's me excited to the point of shaking and that's part of it, the rush. Kinda like when I used to run, you reach a point when the second wind kicks in and you feel like you could run forever. That rush ends as does the catch, but I can pick that rod back up and get it all over again. Fishing after dark for me amplify that rush, the sound of that big bass flopping back down into the water after that vertical exit from the water is just a start of the fun.
All of the above are all good reasons to pick up that rod and go for that bite, and a good Crappie dinner sure is good but time in my own head reviewing the things going on around me is a big part of my addiction.
We are all restricted to an absolute time on this Earth, death will come. How do you want to spend your days, in front of a TV watching what someone else is doing or out on the lake enjoying all the greatness God put here for us to enjoy.

On the TV series Yellowstone, John Dutton was fishing with a friend, and the friend asked John for a fly
because he lost all of his, and John Dutton said I lost my last one a half hour ago. He was still fishing.
Doing it to be there.

Sweet photo,Hack. You both look pretty happy. I think about the sharing, too, especially since I’m often out there by myself - plus I’m learning so much from you all that I can’t wait to let you know when it works. 🎣

All of the above. I also equate fishing to gambling on an old coin slot machine. The old five cent machine is as much fun as the dollar machine, as the bluegill is as much fun as the pike. Each pull of the arm is like a cast. Then the anticipation as the wheels spin. A single cherry, is like a bobber bouncing, Three cherries is the explosion of a surface bass strike. The coins dumping in the tray equates to first seeing and landing the fish. Finally, some of us put the coins back, some of us keep the coins, but in the long run, we all end up financially poorer, but memory richer for the experience. I quit playing slot machines when they went electronic.

I like that, Bapa. Good analogy.

Feel free. I was working in the back yard one evening and saw the sky light up, so I drove down to the local pond to get an unobstructed view. It is one of the only places around here in Central New Jersey that does not have buildings, water towers, or a lot of power lines running through the background. God painted it - I just took the picture. The linear clouds are probably the remains of contrails from the steady line of jets on their approach to Newark or Kennedy Airport.
