I'm interested in fishing on the Sacramento River around the city of Sacramento. Any suggestions about where, what to fish for, and what methods and baits will yield best results?
Thanks.

There are hundreds of good places to fish within hours. Too many different kinds to list. Keep reading the Stage and you will get some good ideas where to start. I like to fish for trout and there are many lakes and streams in the area. I like Camanche during the winter months.

Good luck. I hope you get the information your after. I know I would be picking Spirit27’s brain for information. I have heard of many fish on that river in different sections from all sorts of sources. My uncle liked Salmon but not sure when exactly and where on it.

Welcome to the Stage QAM ,, lots of stagers from up your area, checkout Sportsmen Warehouse, or Sacramento Bee sports page, they both put out weekly fish reports, or local Tackle Shops, you have very many local parks along the river, Good Luck !!👍

Howdy! I live in the Sacramento area. The Sacto. River, around Sacramento has a lot of species: Salmon and Stripers being the most predominate. Not much of anything is going on right now. The late fall Salmon run is pretty much over and Stripers haven't gotten up here yet. Look for spring run Stripers starting about March and peaking in May in our area. The fall run is about from Sept. to Nov.. Fall Salmon season begins in mid-August and peaks in October. Trolling for both Salmon and Steelhead is one way, bait fishing with Anchovies or Sardines for Stripers is another. If your trolling try a broken back Rebel for Stripers and Kwik fish with a Sardine or Crawdad tail wrap for Salmon. I almost forgot, Small and Large mouth Bass are great to fish for along the rip rap. Either use various Bass lures or if you fly fish, chartreus streamers can be great. I can't really tell you where to go. It really depends on river conditions, time of year, etc. I'm not sure how to do a private message on the Stage. If you do, send me one and we can exchange phone #s. to talk more and maybe arrange a fishing trip!
Kyle

My buddy and I are leaving Thursday 1/27 we will stay at a hotel in Anderson on the river, we have our own drift raft (Fly Catcher is the Company name) we also have never fished the Sac before, were gonna do four different floats down the river(4 days) to get a feel of the river. Put in at Redding and float down to a take out somewhere and work our way down to Red Bluff and down from their maybe. Trout and Steelhead are what happening now I believe on the middle Sac, the lower Sac where you are is probably fishing the same right now. Stop by and talk to a small tackle shop in your area... they will bring you up to speed.

I have fished the Sacramento River for 30 plus years. Very soon the Striper spawning run begins and is my favorite time to fish the river. However, February is a great month for Sturgeon fishing. Right after a good rain when the river looks like chocolate milk is best. March is when the Stripers run in great numbers. I start in the Verona area where the Feather River runs into the Sac. I continue to follow the fish North up the river. You want to be in the Grimes area late April, early May. The river explodes with spawning fish and when you catch a female the males will jump right into your net after her. If you time it right where you are on the right stretch of river for that one magic week it will be a fishing memory you will never forget.
