As far as I can tell fish only think about two things, Eating and Spawning, find their buffet and bed and fish will come.

To add to Fred's sage advice, try to journal what, where, when, and how the fish was caught: location, date, time, weather/atmospheric conditions, lure(s)/bait/application used. There are apps for this to make it easier. After a while, you'll start to notice patterns!

I did that some years back, and it works. Something great to review on bad weather days. Gets ya pumped up for further efforts, and if done well and faithfully, a great way to improve your catching.

What is the best advice you could tell a new fisher here on the stage?

Keep your lores in the water. If you ain't fishing, you can't be catching. There are a lot of very knowledgeable people on this site. If you are looking for information just ask. Someone will probably be able to help you or at least point you in the right direction.

Have FUN, be PATIENT, start SIMPLE, expand your gear when you know a little bit about it and have decided what you want to fish for. Remember, when it comes to gear, one kind/size does NOT fit ALL!

Oh wait! Youโ€™re being serious...๐Ÿ˜ฒ

The best advice I could give them is to be a patient fisher person. Learn the baits to use and how to use them. Learn how to use a fish finder to your advantage. Ask questions. Thereโ€™s no such thing as a stupid question.

Access as many informational sources as you can during your
'down' time - watch fishing
tutorials on YouTube (for
whichever species you'll be
pursuing), pay attention to any
tips given while watching fishing
programs, and read any/all reliable
fishing magazine(s) available for
the species that interest you !

Besides fishing magazines/
programs, your local public
library may also carry 'how-to'
books on fishing in general, or
certain species in particular !

Some sporting goods outlets
(such as BPS/Cabela's/Sportman's
Warehouse) may also carry tutorial DVDs on fishing for certain species;
consider them an investment rather than an unnecessary expense, as any information that helps you meet your goal is worth it in the end !

First of all have fun. Fishing isn't a bloodsport unless you get a hook in you. You don't have to spend expensive but don't buy junk. Many of us have been fishing 50+yrs n still learning. If you find someone that knows it all run away. A good fisherman or woman will tell you they're always learning something. Stay around to really discover what FS is all about. ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ‘
