My son wears gloves, because he is allergic to fish. I love that he has taught my grandson, and some of my grandson's friends, how to fish.

I use gloves for UV protection. I fish for crappies mostly and use to come home with fin pricks on my hands. The gloves protects my ands from them also.

The fish can smell the scent on your hands. After catching many bass you have minor sores and cuts on your fingers. Gloves help to prevent the bass from slipping also the first protection from being hooked from a crankbait. Just look what the tourney pros do.

I only use gloves in the cold for warmth. But I touch the tiniest portion of a lure when snaping one on and pull off weeds by holding the weeds and not the lure.
Biologists on the lower Columbia R. were counting salmon thru a window fish ladder. Suddenly all the salmon came swimming back down the ladder. The counters discovered someone had just prior rinsed his hands in the water up the ladder and the fish were immediately repelled back down.
