I was going to say Spiritof27 and some others will help you but I don’t really want to volunteer people for anything even though I know they will help.
As long as you're not guaranteeing anyone a spot on my lawn, feel free. I'm always willing to do the best I can. Let me know if that helps Katy.

I will buy you or loan you Katy a nice chair for his lawn if ever want to use or have one. 😂
I have a brand new granddaughter (born in October), her name is Murphy. Who names their daughter Murphy? Well, her mama's name is Katie. So there you go.
Katy if you're just now learning to fish, you're in a good spot. Don't get a whole lot better than the Sacramento River. Get ready now for the shad run in a few months after the spring striper run. Late Feb and early March are the times to catch the big mama stripers - we're talking 30 pounders. Talk to the folks in the bait shops up there, they will put you on the fish. Find someone with some experience to take you out and teach you about the different species, salmon, steelhead trout, rainbows, stripers and shad. Not for sure about sturgeon, but I have caught them down here on the Feather, so don't know why they wouldn't be in the Sac. No dams from Sacramento to Lake Shasta. If you've got specific questions, just ask, I'll do best I can and there lots of folks on here with tons of information, just let us know what it is you want to catch. If you want salmon, there is a spring run I'm pretty sure.
Go to the user list and search by location - you'll see a bunch of members from Redding.
July 15 trough about October into November
There are four runs a year up the Sacto through Los Molinos and the late spring for stripers and shad that run all the way up to Red Bluff.
