Bassmaster Classic. Is it a big deal?

It is coming to my town and was curious if anyone knows the significance of the event. I understand it is the major national tournament and there are a lot of activities going on. Is it something that is on TV still or a mainstream event? It has been a while since I watched any type of fishing shows and the classic was mostly a niche broadcast on a sporting channel. It seems like it has grown in popularity. Anyway I am just curious if anyone knows how this will effect the lake or has been to one of these events.

The Bassmaster Elite was the highest level tour until this season (that's another story). The Classic is the championship for the Bassmaster Elite tour. It has a lot of history and prestige surrounding it. B.A.S.S. calls it the "Superbowl of Fishing", the winner gets $300,000 and the life changing title of Classic winner. There are more reasons why it's a big deal and why this one in particular is a big deal.

As for how it will effect the waters; that's always a highly debated topic. Attend it if you can, this may be the last BIG classic since so many anglers moved to a new tour.

The Elites is still filled with hammers. The Classic is still the dream for aspiring pro anglers. That will never change. The Classic always has been and always will be the biggest professional fishing event on the annual calendar. MLF is operating on a completely different rule set. It is still to be determined if the average pro bass fan who follows the pro scene is going to accept the rule set or not. I personally have always enjoyed the MLF but I have always been in the minority mostly because of the ruleset.

I love all three big tours and all the anglers are incredible.

It will be interesting to see how the Classic holds up to the Redcrest in the future with almost all the top tier names moving over.

I don't follow FLW too much except once in awhile on YouTube. The future is all going to depend on if MLF can draw the viewership, and more importantly imo, MLF staying "by the anglers, for the anglers" which has already been a bit controversial. I don't think this is going to hurt BASS at all, I think they both can succeed. I do still believe having 3 pro series is a net loss for pro bass fishing going "mainstream". Without a major merger and having only 1 top pro series, pro bass fishing will always be niche.

The kill off is alarmingly high despite what they want you to believe.

I have been reading about it. Apparently delayed mortality is a factor but can't find out how people know the fish die later, how long after release, or how many.

There are hundreds of white papers written about this over the last few decades. Most explain their method in extreme detail. What that other dude said is completely false according to pretty much every white paper ever. 3% is the number usually cited in relation to delayed mortality. That's over thousands upon thousands of fish caught throughout a tournament week. (Practice + actual tourney.

It would be worth going to the show just to see everything on display. A lot of items will be there that you will not see anywhere else.
