I'm a winter Texan. Staying in Brownsville Texas until April. I'll be trying surf fishing for whatever species that bites, I'm not particular. I would like to catch a big redfish though! I'll also wander down to the jetties at the south end of the island. Any hints, tips or tricks would be appreciated.

Welcome to the Forum, Andy. Well, where do I start? First of all, I'm sorry that I'm not down there this Winter. Health issues with the bride. Second, don't waste your time with the Bay Boats, they are a waste of time and money. The Port Isabel Pier isn't bad but you will never catch enough to have a fish fry, but you usually catch something besides hardheads. The State Park Jetty can get hot at times, but it is a little diffacult walking out there. The farther you walk the better the fishing. Maybe?
Brownsville Tony is a member on the Forum he may give you some insight too. He lives in Brownsville.
Whiting in the surf on frozen shrimp or fish bites. Sheepshead should be at the jetties next month. Best on live shrimp.
thanks, P Jack Austin. I'm going to the surf Friday afternoon with Brownsville Tony. My 1st trip.
Been off the Forum for awhile. How did your trip to the beach with Brownsville Tony go? Jack
