Does anyone use small circle hooks for stocked trout? What is your goto Hook and size?
I do Garry. I bought a couple hundred of #8 circle hooks from cabela's 5 or 6 years ago. They're lasting me a good long time, I still have plenty, but cabela's doesn't carry them any more as far as I know. They work great for bait fishing for c&r trout because they don't usually swallow the bait. File off the barb and they are just outstanding for that purpose. I'm not sure which manufacturer made the ones I have, but none of the "big" names makes them that I know of. If you locate a source, pease let me know?
Eagle claw size 8 been using them for 53 years.

I use a TMC #2457 size 14 for my pink squirrel, which is my go-to fly. 90% of our trout are native browns or brooks, with a pail full of rainbows thrown in once a year at the end of the season.

I stand corrected slayer. The ones I have and bought a while back are barbless. Those are the ones I can't find anymore. I even saw VMC circles size 10 at BPS.

How do you fish those fly? Like a circle hook, no setting the hook? Or do you set it?

It's like fishing a circle hook, all you do is gently raise the rod and the fish will be there. If you set the hook, you will break your 2# test tippet. The hook is so sharp, it will penetrate the trout's soft mouth. The trout will set the hook itself.

I'm gonna get some. Thanks. Can you get them barbless?
