First fish I've ever caught... What a feeling
It's nothing special, only a decent Roach out of my local canal, but for my second time fishing alone... I finally hooked one. And what a feeling! I've fully got the bug

These guys are fun to fish and once you figgure out where they like to hang out you can pull loads of them up in the first 5 minutes of hitting the spot. Sweetcorn is great but cheap own brand white bread is better once you figgure out how to get it to retain on the hook well.

Yeah I'm going back down tomorrow and just going to wet the bread a bit so it sinks. Sweetcorn worked well today, missed three bites and then landed this. Then the rain came and ruined everything haha.

Compress the ball into a small ball and use a tiny hook. It will sink no problem. These guys are great for targeting size of fish by size of bait too. Bigger ball bigger fish smaller ball smaller fish. I get them up to about 15" here where I am. Using soft bread over balled up bread leaves a tendency for them to pull it off the hook where as a ball of bread holds on to the hook when they suck it in to their mouth. I also find they have a tendency for the smaller ones to pull appart soft bread on a hook they can't swallow or with bread that's too big.
In my experience soft bread makes a great floating "fly" when they are biting on top though.

Good start Tom, now that you caught the bait what's your target fish. What part of this great land are you fishing?
Can't remember my first one probably was not that big.
Congrats, I’ve been fishing for over 60 years and everyone is just as much fun as the first! Enjoy the journey
I'm 66 yrs old. Grew up with a trout stream on the back of our property so I've been fishing probably 61 yrs. That OH YEAH feeling never dies. I still get that thrill even with a nice size blue gill. That and when your fishing you can shut out pretty much any problems or stress related issues you might have. 👍👍
When you are with the roaches, keep your eyes peeled for big fish that might come to visit. They look like perfect bait. In the meantime, perfect your technique. Bread balls are the thing.
