I love fishing but am very conservation focused, so I’d love to do catch and release if at all possible. I’ve got my own gear as far as rod and reel, tackle, and fish descender, but my main question is how to get the fish on the boat without a gaff. I’ve considered using a pier or bridge net, but I’m not sure if that’s allowed or taboo. Are there any other tools I can use? Thanks you!

Ask the skipper on the boat you plan to charter. Don't expect help from the crew unless the boat is near empty. The deck hands have a routine that allows them to take care of so many people and a lot of fish. Anything that gets in the way of that routine causes nightmares . Fish are lost, people have to wait to get back to fishing, lines are tangled and tempers flair. If you wish to do a special type of fishing, charter a private boat, or find a skipper that allows a free for all. Expect to pay more as a larger crew is needed to treat everyone fairly.
