St. John's pier in st. Augustine Florida
Going to be in st. Augustine Florida the end of this month. Looking for info on what baits to use to fish off the pier. Any help would be greatly appreciated
I live in St Augustine most of the year and I fish the pier often. Best luck is with shrimp and cut mullet. You can buy both at the tackle shops on the pier. Bring a knife because you will have to cut the mullet.
Awesome, what type of fishing gear do I need. Rod and reel and what pound line
Also what is the best Pier to fish. St Johns or what would you recommend
What type of Rod and Reel would I use oh, and what pound test. Do I use Jegs or circle hooks
I generally use 20 or 30 lb test with a 10 or 12 lb leader. The water is normally a little cloudy so use braid or mono. I always use circle hooks when fishing the pier or surf. Jacksonville has a nice pier also.
What rig style do you use. Jig style or bottom weight with a three-way. I do appreciate this info it's very helpful. My name is Pastor bear
I put a 4 or 6 on oz. weight on my main line with a ring attachment so it will slide on the line. Then I put a bead on the line and then a good barrel swivel. I tie my leader to the other end of the swivel. I use a bait caster or spinning reel on a medium heavy rod. I try to cast the line as far out into the water as far as possible.
Hope this helps. I'm not going back to St Augustine for a couple of weeks yet so I don't know what's biting right now but it's always good to talk to the people in the tackle shop.
Sounds like you're talking about a Carolina rig. I know the style. Thank you so much for your help oh, you've been a godsend
I most definitely will. I will be fishing in Pensacola the 20th and 22nd of January and the 23rd and 24th Saint Augustine. Do you recommend a certain Pier
St John's pier is as it gets in that area. The Velano pier is good but it only fishes the river.
I am going to give st. John's Pier a try. I do thank you so much for all your help. I will keep in touch and let you know how I do. If you ever come to Wisconsin in the Oshkosh Area to fish. Let me know if you have a free guide
