Hi Logan I would put 60 pound power pro braid for the main line and use 20-25 pound mono or fluorocarbon for the leader. I’ve got 4 catfish rods, 2 spinning and 2 bait casting. All of them have 20-25 pound big game mono on them and work really well. Any of the above setups will work well for big flatheads.

Chicken Livers with night crawlers for bait. Pending on location Catfish will feed in shallow water after dark. Some locations they will feed 24 hours. They are attracted by scent. Chicken livers are like steak and lobster to us.

Your right on RJ big cats love live bait. The world record flathead was frozen and later an autopsy was done and it had a 15 pound carp in its belly. I had a 5 pound channel cat on a trot line that a big fish tried to eat, it was skinned from his gill plates to its tail. Goes to show you, big cats love big baits!

Strips or chunks of plain chicken breasts works really well for big catfish and blues, also threadfin shad 4 to 5 in folded over double, fold shad in half and break their back and bust their bladder, stick hook thru boney part of the tail thru both eyes. It casts really well and one bite is all it takes!
