Grandfather's extra spool. Found in an old toolbox. Spooled with 8lb test in 1971.
Any idea what reel it was for? Made in France.

Try Mitchell 300 series from the 70s. My first impression but the 70s are kind of a blur lol

That is the one I meant. Not Abu Garcia but Garcia Mitchell. It doesn't look like the original spool but maybe if the reel came with an extra.

Just checked. It looks exactly like the original one on my 300.
If it's app. 2¾" diameter, it's probably going to be a model 302 Saltwater.
Great reels. Pop off the side plate, clean and grease, they work for decades.

That is 100% a Mitchell spool. Most likely from a 300 or one of the variants. The France stamp on the drag adjustment dial gives it away.

It is a Mitchell 300, I bought one of the first ones we had available in MN. in 1955 for $32.00 when I was 12 years old, it broke me but I still have it today and I think you can still buy them for about the same price.
Looks like my Mitchell 300 spool
its a Mitchell 300 for sure. I have 4 of them , my 2 and dad's bought them for 15 bucks each in the 60's . I still use them for carp fishing and trolling. great old reels.....
