I have a Penn Battle II size 6000 that I will be using for surf fishing. Are there any recommended rods out there that will pair nicely with the reel?

Looking to catch any range from small (i.e. perch) to big (i.e. striped bass) fish, so looking for something that is versatile and also a 2 piece rod for travel.

Any 10' or longer will work depending on how much you want to spend. I have that exact reel on a cheap 10' glass rod from academy and it works well.

Awesome, thanks for the tip. I'll check out Academy's selection.

What type of line do you usually throw on there?

I use 20# braid main line. Anywhere from 10#-40# mono/flouro leaders.

If I were you I'd go with the Saint Croix surf cast rod in 10'

I am a big fan of Hurricane rods. Have a few Redbones I use for inshore fishing and picked up two 10' Blue Fins last year for pompano/red fishing the surf. Great rods for the $$

Penn makes a rod to match that reel with. Usually comes as a combo rod and reel.

I second the St.croix rods, I’ve been using them for twenty years and I find them true to there power and action ratings. And they are extremely tough to break.

Do NOT buy a "telephone" pole rod. The rod that you pair with your reel should have good flexibility, which will cast much further than a very stiff rod. Your 6000 size reel may also be much more reel than you need for multiple types and size fish.

I have st Croix and penn slammer rods. st Croix cost a bunch more when they go overboard.
Penn slammer in 7 foot one piece med-heavy have brought more strippers to the boat and shore than you would believe. you need more than one rod to fish the surf. you need to throw and wait with heavy bait and lead (7' med.-heavy) and likewise be ready to plug and pop when the fish show-up with flexible casting (9-10' will get you started). 20lb mono will cover what your after.
