SamJamFiftyOne: My largest fish was a striped marlin, out of Mazatlan, Mexico. We were perhaps 10 to 15 miles out in the Pacific trolling for billfish.

When we hooked the fish I fought and landed it did a lot of acrobatics, jumping and multiple Birddog hopping, and such. But when the fish was near the boat, the captain kept moving the boat away quickly from the fish. I did not understand why.

When the fish was finally boated, I was looking closely at the hook. It was foul hooked, with the line passing through the fish's mouth, and was foul hooked in the gill cover on the opposite side. That was what the captain saw from above and kept the boat in such a position so the fish would not become unhooked. It weighed around 189 lbs and was over 7ft long. My personal largest ever. Just Sayin....RJS

My personal best is not so impressive for most folks here. 31.5" Northern Pike. More impressive is I walked a mile and half down the road to a creek. I caught that fish from the road in 2 feet of water, then had to walk it back.

264 lb. halibut. I was exciting. Unweighted fish over 200 were shark and sturgeon. Skippered and gaffed fish over 300, both salmon shark and halibut. Biggest PB for its species was 17 lb. rainbow. All were exciting, but so is a two pound yellow perch or crappie.

Big, big gar, pulled my pirouge around, only 20# test, and it was over 100. It took my dad, and the neighbor to drag it back to the house. Rope around the head, tied to a paddle handle, and behind the neck, and it was still dragging. No I didn't put it in the boat, just pulled it along side after tying it up. Of course my friend had to help, we were kids.

The day I caught my biggest keeper salmon there was supposed to be 25 mph winds with 45 mph gusts and rain. The weather report scared off most other fishermen. My buddy had just had surgery and it was the first day he could go fishing after the surgery. So we went regardless of the weather. I hooked two big Chinook that I got close to netting. The first one pulled the hook through its jaw and got away. The second one broke my jig hook. And the third one was 34lbs. barely fit in the net. I have caught a couple larger but they were Zombies, already spawned out, and black in color so I didn't weigh them. Oh, the weather wasn't even close to what the report said. No wind and it lightly sprinkled for about 10 min.

Like RJS, fishing about 10 miles off Cabo San Luca in ‘93.

Launched a 14” live mullet and smacked a striped marlin sunning itself in the face. Immediate hookup followed by 45 minutes of spectacular topwater acrobatics.

On the jump, the spray was every color of the rainbow!

9’4” and 176lbs.

Was walking on tiptoes for days after.

My largest was a chinook salmon that bottomed out my 50 pound scale with it’s tail still curled in the bottom of the boat. It was somewhat blushed so I realeased it.

Caught a 16 Lb-4Oz rainbow trout on 3 lb test line. Took me an hour to bring in. Caught him at Lake Simtustus (Also know as Pelton Dam). Would have let him go but don't think it would have made it. He is now mounted and is hung in our guest apartment. Caught him on a rooster tail and didn't have a net in my boat. Fish of a lifetime.

Largest one that I measured (Sturgeon) was 4" longer than my 9' Oars on my Sled. Have caught many larger but never measured. It was so Beautiful from a species standpoint. I also had an 8'er jump in my boat too, My fishing partner said *&%#$@*, who was sitting with he back to the windshield when it jumped into the bow, why didn't you tell me it was so big? I said I didn't know, didn't fight that hard before something spooked it and shot up out of the water and landed in the bow. Glad it wasn't back with us and the tackle boxes that would have probably be flying over the side!
