What's a "western" lake? Or better where? I'm in California, right around Sacramento and we have all those and more, although I've never heard of a cracker. I can tell you where to go to catch any of those, and all within 25 miles of where I live. And what have you got against trout?

Since you didn't mention where you are located, I will assume that you are somewhere east of the Mississippi River.
I live in Cheyenne, Wy., which is considered trout country. But right here in town we have 2 lakes (ponds really) that hold good populations of Crappie, Large Mouth Bass, Blue Gill, Catfish, Yellow Perch and of course trout. Also, within 120 miles of my home I can catch Walleye to 16 pounds, Small Mouth Bass to 18 inches and several varieties of trout from 1/2 pound to over 20 pounds (depending on species!)
So to answer your question, yes the western lakes do hold lots of pan fish.

And with you. May I direct you to the fish sniffer (www.fishsniffer.com). There you will find all kinds of writings about all kinds of fishes and where to catch them on the west coast. And not just trouts. Check out the forum. Enjoy!

I really can't go anywhere right now , I just wanted to know. I like fishing where I live. We have abundance of all the fish and there are many . So again I want to thank you for insight. All that I've ever read was about the trout and about the flies that were used to catch them. Well again I want to thank you all. You take care and Peace be with you all.

I used to live in No. Highlands and fished at Bullards Bar, rivers and Delta. Loved that place. Now live in less than ideal (Albuquerque).

First... you only need to punch the "send button" once.... moving on .... like the above comments, we, in Oregon, HAVE a myriad of fish species to fish for.....we just PREFER trout and salmon and steelhead over warm-water species. I know I will get some scoffs for saying this, but my favorite lake around here is Fourmile, a lake with NO panfish, perch, bass, not even crappie. Don't have to hassle with the "unwanteds" !
