How do you fish a fast moving river during the winter months?

I love fishing and I’m pretty new to it but the one thing that pushes me away year after year is when my local river rises and the surface becomes more rough in the spots that are calm during the summer. What do you throw in water that is moving quicker? I’ve tried all sorts of top water lures and spinners but have had 0 luck whatsoever fishing outside of those months where the water isn’t so cold and has a lot more calm spots for the fish to hang out in.

Thanks!!

When high and dirty in the PNW we generally want something that addressed smell, sound and sight. One good option is a double spoon with a wee bit of smelly jelly. Probably first choice is a spinner that rattles with some scent on the hook. An option on the hook is to change to a single trailing hook either by adding a swivel or a tag line.

I always fish the edges where the water is running slower and has some protection such as big rocks or where the river bends. I’ve found fish look for easier currents
