Hey I’m getting back into fishing after not fishing since I was about 13. I’ve been fishing all summer and I’ve got a lot of bass but I’ve been wanting to try some trout and was wondering if anybody and had some advice on how to get started on that.

Find streams and rivers in your area, start with small spinners, spoons and maybe jigs. Learn how to read a river for the spots the trout will hide. It'll take practice

What environment are you fishing? Lake, pond, river, stream? It also helps to know where and when they stock any areas with trout. Another thing to consider is any state laws that surround trout fishing. Certain months and areas are usually prohibited for trout fishing. With that said I generally catch trout on small spoons and rooster tails.

I have not tried any fishing for any yet. I know there is a creek near by that I’ve seen a lot of people catch rainbow trout in. I’d have to look and see if there is a season for them here. I don’t know of anywhere in the area that stocks trout, from what I’ve seen people mostly stock catfish, grass carp, and blue gill in my area.

You see people running around stocking the carps?

Only one lake. Apparently grass carp help clean the water or something like that.

Where are you located? What kind of trout?

Check your state's Fish & Game publications for info on stocked waters near your location. Once you've mastered the stockers, find out where the natives live (if any- very few to none in some states). Different strategies, an interesting learning curve. Enjoy!
Look for colder water. Streams hold a lot of trout. Look up fishing reports in your area and see where people are catching trout.
