Hello everyone , I’m transplanted from Long Island , NY . Fly fishing is a passion of mine and now I’m in Florida ! I’m looking to continue fly fishing for fresh water Trout , someone told me there are spots in Georgia? I’m new here so I first have to be careful with the term Trout as it means something completely different in this neck of the woods . I’m use to fishing the Beaverkill and Connetquot River on LI . Been fly fishing for over 50 years . I have no problem driving to Georgia or the Carolina’s . For some cold fresh water fishing , any help would be appreciated . Ken
Hi Rebel. A little further away, but a week in the Smokys north of Maggie Valley, NC and south of Gatlinburg, Tenn has some fantastic, fast moving streams holding trout. Don't forget the camera for some great landscapes. Cades Cove great for the latter. Good luck in your search.
Thank you for the info - when I moved my wife said your going to miss those beautiful trout steams up north . But we moved here for health reasons , and Trout fishing 🎣 took a back seat . I’m just happy to be able to get to a place less than a days drive . I’ll keep throwing flys until they pull me from the river ! Thank you all for your help . I’m still trying to find this Georgia stream I read about in trout unlimited some years ago .???
A.J Mc Clanes (sic) fishing encyclopedia states that in northwest Georgia fly fishing for trout both native and stocked is possible. Think that might be the closest place to you for what you are looking to do. It's about where the Appalachian Mountains begin to rise.

Ken
I live in Charlotte NC now, but I raised my family in Abingdon VA. Trout fishing below the South Holston Dam is fantastic. This small river is in Tennessee. Fly fisherman’s dream come true. My PR is a 10lb rainbow.
Latest 1day catch for the 2 of us.

What time did you say the fish fry is?
Nice bunch of fish!
Sorry those were eatin a couple weeks age. Had a big fish fry with fresh water trout, whiting, crappie and sea trout.
Hey Ozzie, do you ever fish up around Cherokee. I have fished the tribal waters and the hatchery supported waters around there.

I worked at Connetquot for 8 years, ‘04-12. Between us, we both know there’s no place that had better trout fishing. That said, I recommend contacting ‘Trout Unlimited’ for anywhere near to you.

Lived in Florida briefly (6 mos.)
back in the early-80s - the only
place I know of for trout in Florida
is a small, privately-owned/stocked lake in the Tallahassee area !
It is only open and stocked some-
time between November and
March, and it's a pay-to-fish
location, but it is considered
to be stocked with trophy-sized
trout ! I believe it is also limited
to fly-fishing and is catch-and-
release, as the gentleman who
owns and runs it stocks
it out of his own pocket !
