used to fish for them on the pawtuxet river naval station on Chesapeake Bay. We would catch live bait and use that, but as I recall when they're running and they run in schools they get into a frenzy like sharks and they'll bite a spark plug if you throw it out there. They are not picky.

Meanest fish in the ocean. If they were the size of a mako shark, there would be NO mako sharks left in the ocean.
I once had a blue shark chomping on our chum bag. I pulled up the bag with the shark attached and punched that blue dog in the nose, stunning it really good. We also had a school of ‘gator blues around the boat. When the blue fish realized that the blue shark was stunned, they started biting the sharks tail. To this day I feel sorry for that shark.
Another time we had a smallish blue fish in our live well for bait for shark. That bluefish was in the live well ALL DAY. At the end of the day, having not used it for bait, we decided to let the bluefish go.
Well that bluefish was so pissed off from being kept confined it attacked the dip net and bit a hole in it. Meanest damn fish in the ocean I tell ya 🦈😳

Blues will hit just about anything when they're actively feeding, schooled up in blitz mode. When they're just cruising around, shiny stuff, noisy surface stuff or something with a wicked wiggle will get their attention. A bucktail jig in the weight needed for the casting distance required with a pork rind strip trailer has worked well for me, fished slow and deep or faster near the surface. Depends on where they're hanging out.
They are really fun to catch; if they hit fifty pounds you'd need big game tackle to land them!
i USE THE SAME JIGS AS I USE FOR MACKEREL - CAST MASTER OR ANY SIMILAR SHINY JIG 3/4 OZ AND IT WORKS AS A CHARM. THE SAME FAST RETRIEVING TECHNIQUE AS WELL
nah, that guy with the bandana comes in at 250, at least, doncha know.....
Gotcha plugs or spoons with single hook!
