I have a few baitcasters, all Lews.
- Hypermag
- Team Lews Lite
- Mach 1 something
They all function great, smooth as hell. I recently found out that they are made by a 3rd party who also makes super BS reels, I did not like the sound of it, though I am aware this does not inherently imply lesser quality.
If I were to switch to something like the Shimano Chronarch or the Daiwa Tatula Elite, would I actually notice a difference? These reels perform every function seemingly perfect, so what am I missing by using these instead of what everyone recommends?
I know people bash the hell out of Lews, and I can understand it based on the fact described above about where/how they are produced. If I spend ~250 on a Chronarch, for instance, will I suddenly realize what everyone is talking about?
For reference, I use my Hypermag every single day, with a Mojo Bass medium fast

Sounds like you are trying to fix what's not broken.
I like my Lew’s baitcaster just fine but I really love my Shimano DC baitcaster reel.
You needn't put legs on a snake. Each reel has it's own feel, What a good reel does it does it's own way. Go with your gut and whatever feels good for you is a great reel.

I have a lot of the lews reels, the South Korean made reels, NOT the Chinese made models ( like the Mach series ) . The Korean made models are fine reels, made in the same factory as ABU Revo S, ST, Sx, Rocket, winch, and a few others. I own numerous Revos . Great reels. I also own few Daiwa reels. They are made in s.korea or japan. Excellent reels too. My son owns a few Shimano reels , they a Japanese made. He says they aren’t any better than his lews. In my opinion , you won’t really notice a difference if you compare apples to apples with these fine reel makers. I can’t speak about the Chinese reels because I do not / will not own any. Personal preference....My 2cents...
