Surf fishing: Casting reel recommendations

Finally picked up a nice custom heaver built on a 13ft wri fusion mag blank.

Was planning on putting an akios f15 on it, but I'm not married to the idea. What are you other options?

I run diawa on 90% of my setups but they don't have any good magged casting reels, and I don't see the point in buying one just to send off IE buy a saltist and then send to a reel shop.

I've been using Avet MXL reels on my conventional rods for a good many years. Simple to clean and maintain, made in USA. I love having the lever drag for bait fishing.

I have always used a spinning reel from Penn's Spinfisher saltwater fishing lineup for my surf and shore rods. Overall great performance and durability. Good luck and tight lines with the new rod πŸ‘πŸ»

Yup those are my backup fir night fishing if I blow up a reel. Or if I just feel l,y and want to throw spin instead of conventional bc.

I use the Ambassadeur 9000. My used the Penn 980 (no longer made) but I hear Penn’s newest reels are good.

They put magnets in the reel to help control the rotation of the spool so you don't get backlash.

I just started surf fishing again and to me the new Penn reels are smother and quiet . The old ones were fantastic reels just not as smooth

Ft. Thanx. I haven't purchased a bait caster in years. Thumb is trained.

Small magnets in the reel help to stop bird nests.

The Avets that I use were made before the nag version was built. It took me about a year to master casting that reel. The bearings that are used are amazing, with order lube wiwith a finger spin.il spin for half a minute or more from a finger spin
