First time trying saltwater fishing. Located for 3 months in Rockport, TX so have access to the bay here as well as Port Aransas by ferry. Any tips greatly appreciated.

Start out fishing on the bottom with a double rig with shrimp for bait. That will get your feet wet.

Welcome to the Stage Odom. I’d start out using live shrimp on a #6 treble hook, using a medium-heavy rod. Just starting, I’d use a spinning reel for saltwater, with 17-20# test line. Good luck.👍

Even simpler than bait fishing and much better exercise, try wading and casting around any structure or current edges with a gold KastMaster or a Mr. Twister-type lure. Good way to scout out a new area. Winter in south Texas should be hot for speckled trout, but many species will bite the aforementioned 2 lures.

Bring a chair and be sure to hydrate. Tight Lines.
